The striking transporters are demanding lowering of diesel prices by Rs 10 per litre and a cut in tyre prices, besides the withdrawal of service tax on truckers.
The truckers' demand list also includes levying uniform 4 percentage point VAT on diesel, scrapping registration and return filing requirements in the new Carriers Act, reducing tyre prices by 30-35 per cent and rolling back national permit fees from Rs 5,000 to Rs 1,500.
Transporters want a moratorium on all instalments and waiver of interest on truck finance for at least six months.
