India to meet '08 indirect tax goals: FM

India is poised to meet its indirect tax targets for this fiscal year.

Although according to the finance minister, target growth in excise tax is looking formidable at the moment.

P Chidambaram told reporters that the overall indirect taxes would be met but the central excise collection is causing concern.

He also added that the excise growth for this year seems a little formidable. He said that the target increase in service tax was 26.1 per cent for the fiscal year 2008-09 and it should be possible to meet that goal.
