Why Nano bookings won't start before Sept

May 20, 2008

Media entry into the factory is frowned upon. But we managed to get a glimpse of some of the work that is going on at the Nano workshop and some interesting facts about the controversial Singur unit.

What is causing the delay

According to a factory insider, last year's monsoon played havoc on the pace of construction. "This being a low-lying area was completely submerged and a lot of work got washed away," he informed rediff.com.

His words were endorsed by CPI-M district committee member Dibakar Das. Being associated with work at the Singur factory from day one, Das also claims that the bookings for the Nano will not start before September.

Das too blamed last year's rains and this year's Panchayat elections for the delay.

The day the first Nano rolls out of the factory (some time in October, he predicts), Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be there to grace the occasion, Das told rediff.com.
