Beijing Olympics cast shadow over Kashmiri apples

May 2, 2008
The apple industry in Jammu and Kashmir has been hit hard due to the Beijing Olympics.

The Chinese government's decision to close down pesticide factories in order to cut down the emission of green house gases ahead of the Beijing Olympics, has hit apple growers in Jammu and Kashmir and the prices of pesticides have shot up in the local market.

The cultivation of a healthy crop of Indian Kashmir apples depends heavily on Chinese pesticides and fungicides.
