What you didn't know about Indian fragrance industry

March 26, 2008
What made your company diversify into perfumes and deodorants?

We have 60 years' experience in creation of perfumes. We are vertically integrated in the fragrance domain. Our cycle brand of agarbatties (incense sticks) has a strong distribution system.

We can leverage our fragrance creation capabilities and distribution strength in the perfume segment. Moreover, we have as our associates top advertising agencies and have been involved in brand building activities for decades.

What kind of perfumes do you make?

We make deodorants and perfumes for personal care, perfumes for room and car fresheners and home fragrances for wellness.

Fragrance is our USP. Ripple's fragrances are created by master blenders, suitable for Indian climactic and skin conditions.

What kind of buyers comprises the Indian perfume market?

Historically, Indian perfume market is women-centric and most of the brands cater to women. But with the advent of deodorants, male perfume brands have proliferated.

Since deodorants are used primarily for removing body odour and perfumes are for attraction, the outlet reach of deodorants is much higher than the latter.
