India has emerged as the second most optimistic nation in the world in terms of Net Employment Outlook, which means that the country is out to hire big time.
Net Employment Outlook is derived by taking the percentage of employers anticipating total employment to increase, and subtracting from this the percentage expecting to see a decrease in employment at their location in the next quarter.
About 36 per cent of employers have positive hiring plans for the April-June quarter this year, says a survey. Among the 32 countries and territories surveyed this quarter, hiring intentions among Indians employers continue to be the most optimistic, the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey says.
India's most optimistic employers are from these sectors:
Mining and construction industry sector: +42 per cent
Least optimistic employers:
Administration and education, and wholesale and retail trade sectors:
Both +31 per cent.
Moderate employers:
Transportation and utilities sector: +33 per cent
As many as 5,279 employers were interviewed for the survey in India. Interestingly, 37 per cent expect an increase in staff in the second quarter of 2008, while a marginal 1 per cent anticipate a decrease. Around 54 per cent are expecting no change.
Apart from India, the most favourable second quarter hiring plans were reported by employers in Singapore, Peru, Romania, Costa Rica, Argentina, Poland, Hong Kong, Australia, Greece and South Africa.
Conversely, employers in Spain and Italy report the weakest job prospects in the next three months.
