Will the markets sink further?

Following negative cues from the overseas markets, the Sensex, on Friday, opened with a huge negative gap of 294 points at 14,128. Persistent selling, thereafter, saw the Index exhbit negative trend through the day.

The Sensex dropped to a low of 13,760 at the fag end of the day - down 662 points from the previous close.

The index finally ended with a hefty loss of 620 points (4.3%) at 13,802.

In the process, the Index on Friday recorded its sixth straight weekly loss - down a whopping 3,633 points (20.8%) since May 16.

Sensex lost 5.2% and Nifty, 4.8% over the week. CNX Midcap index shed 8% and BSE Smallcap index, 6.2%. Sector-wise, BSE Bankex lost 10%, BSE Auto index - 8.7%, BSE Realty index - 9.5% and BSE capital goods index - 8.4%.

NSE Nifty, on Friday, closed 179 points down at 4,136.65.
