As Internet usage grows across the world, attacks on the net are rising. In a study conducted for the first quarter of 2008, Akamai Technologies -- a leading content delivery service provider -- observed attack traffic originating from 125 countries.
China and the United States were the two largest attack traffic sources, accounting for about 30 percentage of the traffic. China topped the list of Internet attacks with 16.77 per cent of the global attack traffic.
China boasts of the highest number of Internet users in the world. According to Chinese government data, there were 220 million Internet users as of February 2008. The United States had 216 million users at the end of 2007, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.
