Toonz Academy, a fully owned subsidiary of Toonz Entertainment Pvt Ltd Singapore, which also owns India's number one animation studio -- Toonz Animation India Pvt Ltd -- is regarded as one of South Asia's state-of-the-art training facilities in 3D and 2D animation.
The first centre of Toonz Academy was set up in Thiruvananthapuram, close to the Toonz Animation studio in 2003. Toonz Academy then provided support in establishing the Toonz Webel Academy in Kolkata in 2004.
Now Toonz Academy has opened centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Indore and Nagpur. 2008 will see centres in Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore and other major cities across India.
The academy has recently signed cooperation agreements with several universities across China to establish animation training centres to cater to the growing demand of skilled manpower in China.
S Ramaprasad, executive director of Toonz Academy, who oversees the operations of all the centres in India and overseas, spoke to rediff.com about the academy and also the Indian animation industry.
