Surat's weaving industry may collapse

June 15, 2008

It's a double whammy for Surat's weaving industry. At a time when workers are demanding a wage revision, several weaving units are likely to close down following a glut in the grey fabric market after processing houses cut production by 30 per cent.

The weaving industry is reeling under pressure of dwindling sales of grey cloth ever since processing houses in Surat have literally stopped buying the fabric.
