Did you know? Head honcho Ekta Kapoor is one of most powerful people in Indian television today. Known to run her fiefdom with an iron hand, she is said to be dictatorial in her dealings and does not tolerate dissidence. At the same time, she has a talent for success.

In the news: On August 19, 2008, Balaji announced that it was ending its four year association with the Star Group. According to the agreement between the two companies, Balaji has the option of buying back nearly 25.99 per cent of its shares being held by Star Group's Asian Broadcasting FZ-LLC company within 240 days at the average price of Rs 190 per share.

If Balaji does not buy the shares back within this period, Star is entitled to sell these shares to anyone other than a Balaji competitor. Balaji and Star will also terminate the regional languages joint venture they signed in April 2007. However, the six Balaji shows being aired on various Star channels would continue.
