With President Raul Castro, the new Cuban leader who replaced his elder brother Fidel in February, lifting the ban on mobile phones, hundreds of Cubans lined up outside phone shops in the Cuban capital of Havana to purchase a cellphone.
Cubans however need to sign an expensive phone contract before they can buy a cellphone. Earlier, some Cubans had to ask foreign friends to sign their phone contracts, but now they can have a phone in their own names. They can now pay for calls with prepaid cards and can also receive and make international calls.
