How IIT wizards created a male contraceptive

April 01, 2008
Will RISUG affect the condoms and pharma industry?

Guha's team does not consider RISUG a potential threat to the condom and the pill industry. As Chaudhury said, "Condom, oral pills and RISUG are miles apart and each will retain its usefulness. For, condoms and pills are easily accessible whereas administration of RISUG is an elaborate process. A lot of planning is needed before one opts for RISUG."

Could it lead to promiscuity?

Promiscuity, said Guha, is a state of mind. Some people will continue to be promiscuous no matter what. And that state of mind should never interfere with scientific invention.
