He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and a master's degree in computer science from Pennsylvania State University.
Amitabh, who holds several patents and has published a variety of papers, is responsible for the development of core operating system components at Microsoft.
He joined Microsoft in 1997 as a senior researcher. Before that, he was the chief technology officer at TracePoint Technology Inc.
He started his career as a researcher at Texas Instruments Inc's research labs in Dallas, Texas, where he worked on LISP machines and the Scheme programming language.
