Travel in space for just $250,000

"The [Cape Breton] facility will see orbital flights, similar to the Kennedy Space Center," says Kathuria. "We're basically developing a private manned space programme for Canada."

So what will it cost to built a 'spaceport?' By Kathuria's estimates, it could cost $200 million. Rockets launched from the site would pass over the Atlantic Ocean on their way into space.

The investment will also lead to the creation of 4,000 jobs and $400 million per year in economic benefits to Nova Scotia. The Canadian spaceport would join other commercial spaceports to be built by private space companies in Scotland, New Mexico, and Texas.

PlanetSpace was formed last year as a partnership between London, Ontario-based Geoff Sheerin, who has been developing the Canadian Arrow rocket for space tourism, and Dr Chirinjeev Kathuria who was a founding director of the Mir Corp that sent the first tourist into space in 2000.
