CEO Jeff Bezos became a household name with the Internet boom, thanks to the way his company revolutionised the concept of e-commerce.
With a current brand value of $2.7 billion and sales of a staggering $6.9 billion, Amazon.com has evolved constantly, which explains how it has managed to hold on to its customers despite years of competition from all quarters. Its latest service, for instance, allows users unlimited shipping for an annual fee of $79. The brand grew by 35%.
Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Washington, Amazon.com Inc. operates Web sites that sell various products and services, including apparel, shoes, health and personal care products, books and consumer electronics. It also offers various new, refurbished and used items in a number of categories, all of which are purchased from distributors, publishers and manufacturers. It also operates a9.com and alexa.com that enable search and navigation, along with the popular movie database Web site imdb.com.
And if you haven't shopped there yet, the e-commerce bug is yet to bite you.
