Are you employment-ready?

February 19, 2009
India is world's second largest education system for producing engineering and technical graduates. Every year, having over 5,00,000 technical graduates ready to join the workforce should be an asset for any country. However, these graduates who theoretically can be leveraged by industries to propel their growth are actually far from workplace ready or 'ready-to-deploy'.

Lot of independent studies, including a Nasscom-McKinsey study, have highlighted that more than 75 per cent of these technical graduates are not 'employment ready'. What is more startling is the fact that the other so called 'employment-ready' students are also not actually 'ready-to-deploy'.

So why is our technical education system failing to produce students that are workplace-ready! Before we go into the reasons, let's first quickly understand the meaning of the terms 'employment-ready' and 'ready-to-deploy'.
