A haircare guide for the summer

April 27, 2009
Hair is subjected to extreme heat and dryness in summers and thus tends to become dry and brittle. Colour fades to a duller shade, making it look undernourished and unhealthy; sweating aggravates itchiness and we attack with our nails, inflicting trauma upon an already irritated scalp. Here are some simple tips to keep your hair and scalp healthy in this terrible heat.

Shampoo frequently

It does not increase hair loss. In fact, we recommend daily shampooing with a mild shampoo to keep the scalp clean of flakes and secretions and prevent build-up of dirt or products (gels, hairsprays etc).

Conditioner is a must in summer after every shampoo session, to form a protective coat over the hair shafts and prevent them from drying. Use either a rinse-out or leave-in variety, as per your preference. Use a lighter conditioner in summer (as opposed to an intensive one for winter) and apply sparingly, as too much could leave your mane feeling oily and flat.
