A grand finale by Sabyasachi

Sabyasachi Mukherjee put up a grand final showing on the fifth and final day of the Lakme Fashion Week. And, as usual, his theme was quite different from any other we've ever seen before. The designer put up an entire his-and-hers bridal collection created entirely out of Patan Patola.

For those not quite in the know, patola saris are a 750-year-old tradition synonymous with Patan, a small town in northern Gujarat. Creating each patola sari is a painstakingly detailed six to eight month process and although we know that the fabric is spun using the complicated double ikat weaving technique, the details are a closely-guarded family secret, handed down from generation to generation by the artisans. In fact, there are only four families now in existence who still spin patola fabric, which was once worn by royalty. Sabyasachi decided to take a stand and save this dying art -- here's what he had to offer.

Go traditional this wedding season. Monikangana Dutta wears a deep green and gold sari with border, while the male model -- all of whom sported glasses and faux beards -- is in an orange and cream kurta set.
