'They escape using false arguments and flattery'

May 8, 2008
Yes, like most offices, there is some sneaky public in my office also. They seldom mind their own job, rather they keep finding holes in others' work. When given some task or asked about their own progress they just make false arguments/ flatter ( depending on the person in front) and try to escape. They don't even feel ashamed in offending others by sharing some secret information in the name of good friendship.

Beware of these fellows.

-- Rajesh Jha

What Rajesh describes is the quintessential office spy -- he is more concerned with others' duties than his own and will often suck-up to the boss, using flattery to get on the good side of seniors.
In the case of such individuals, it is best to beat them at their own game! Once again, enlist the help of a few office pals. Then, taking turns, give Mr Sneaky cause to worry! Give him reason to believe people have been spying on him, make up pretend conversations that will get him hot and bothered if he overhears them and in general, keep him busy looking over his own shoulder! He'll get paranoid enough about his own position and stop focusing on others' affairs!
Alternately, you could also try confronting such an individual and warn him to mind his own business; if you have a good rapport with the boss, just telling off the office spy will have a deterring effect on him.
