Designer speak: Ruchi Mehta at LFW

Young designer Ruchi Mehta is all set to take on Lakme Fashion Week yet again this year. She talks about her label 'Salt' and what the LFW is all about:

About the collection: "My label, as you know, is 'Salt' and I haven't really given a name to define the theme for this year's autumn/winter line. Essentially I've tried to create clothes that someone would like to take on vacation -- you know, light, textured fabrics that are not easily wrinkled. But I have included a few saris this time around -- they're not your typical ethnicwear, I've tried to give them my own unique touch. They have zero zardozi work, instead they sport silk rag stitching, jaali cutwork and have a very light feel overall."

Trends to watch out for this year: "Well, skirts are back with a bang, for one thing. Personally, I've used light fabrics this year but done heavy wool embroidery on them when it comes to jackets and other winterwear -- that's what I think this season will be all about. As for colours, you can't go wrong with autumn shades -- burgundy, olive, rust, blue..."

Take on Fashion Week: I think it's a great place to start your career, a fantastic platform to showcase your work."
