Road tripping to Munnar
I left home (Chennai) at 5.40 am in my Skoda. I was very excited to undertake this journey as I had read a lot about the natural beauty of Munnar.
The beautiful tea plantation town of Munnar is located at an elevation of 1600 m above sea level on the Western Ghats in Idukki district of Kerala. The high ranges of Munnar were earlier known as Kanan Devan Hills.
Coming back to my drive, I took the GST road from Chennai which is NH 45 connecting Chennai-Dindigul via Tiruchi.
The four lane highway is good up to Tindivanam, around 120 km from Chennai. After Tindivanam the road narrows down to the usual two lanes.
Airfare for Rs 599 and less!
My first break was at 7.30 am when I stopped for breakfast at Villipuram which is 160 km from Chennai. I had a good south Indian breakfast at Hotel Woodlands, located on the main road in the town centre.
