A step back in time

Recently, I visited the fascinating Udayagiri-Khandagiri caves, located about 8 km from Bhubaneswar in Orissa.

These caves are more than 2,000 years old. Inscriptions in the caves date to the 2nd century BC.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

Udayagiri and Khandagiri are twin hills and have more than 30 caves with carvings and sculpture commissioned by Kharavela, once the king of Kalinga and a great advocate of Jainism (the very famous Hathigumpha inscription that gives details of Kharavela's reign is in one of the caves at Udayagiri).

They possess such wonderful remnants of a bygone era that the archaeologists, I am certain, must have been ecstatic on their discovery.
