January

If you are a newcomer to yoga, start off with the gentle stretches meant to clear up the lymphatic system, drain toxins as well as expose your joints to their complete range of movements. These seated poses -- which start working out the toes, move up the body and reach right up to the neck and head region -- are called the pawanmuktasana series.

Promoted predominantly by the Bihar School of Yoga and other therapy-based schools, and largely ignored by other aggressive schools, these gently initiate a newcomer into the challenging and exciting world of yoga.

You can download these stretches from the Internet.

Most are repackaged as office yoga, office stretches, energy-releasing poses, joint-releasing poses including the four neck movements advised by physiotherapy in cervical spondylosis. You will also find them on the Bihar school of Yoga websites and journals, with detailed instructions.
