Chennai

December 23, 2008
Okay, the good news first: The Central Pollution Control Board has categorised Chennai as the least polluted city, so if large gulps of fresh air each morning are a must for you, consider moving here. It's a great city on weekends as well, with cinema halls for the day and pubs for the evenings.

The Tamil film industry is located in Chennai, so it has its share of local glamour as well. There are also lots of specialty restaurants, amusement parks and shopping malls. Of course, the fact that strolls on the beach are a definitive option doesn't hurt either. Career-wise, it's promising for those seeking jobs in IT, engineering, banking and finance. A common perception is that those who can't keep up with the fierce pace of Bangalore find employment in Chennai. Chennai is estimated to grow into a $100-billion economy by the year 2025, predicts the Confederation of Indian Industry. All-in-all, it's a lucrative city to earn and live in.

If you don't belong to South India, however, brace yourself for the language problems you'll be sure to encounter. And the weather isn't much fun either, especially during the hot and humid summer months.
