Parvathy Omanakuttan: A star nonetheless

December 16, 2008
India let out a collective moan when our very own Parvathy Omanakuttan lost out on the Miss World crown by a whisker two days ago. The first Malayali Miss India, Parvathy carried the burden of a nation's hopes and expectations on her 21-year-old shoulders.

On the basis of her excellent performance, most people, other contestants included, believed that Parvathy had the title in her pocket. However, at the last minute, the shocker was delivered -- the South Indian lovely lost out to Russian beauty Ksenia Sukhinova.

Parvathy's cousin Santosh says, "The crown was definitely hers. We don't know why she didn't get it, but her answers were better than all the other contestants. Miss Russia's answer certainly wasn't as good as Parvathy's, so we don't know where she lost out. In fact, when the first runner-up crown was being placed on her head, it slipped off. That just shows it wasn't meant for her."
