Thumpamon: Where fireflies light up the night

Nice place this Thumpamon. No cars, no noise, no blaring loud speakers, no dust, no crowds, no shops, no pollution. Far, far away from the maddening crowd, in God's Own Country where the woods were dark, deep and lovely, and I had all the time to stand and just stare. A place caught in a time warp.

Airfare for Rs 599 and less!

I sat in the veranda and watched the gales and the thunder showers and the swaying of the coconut and areca nut palms, drinking tea made from locally sourced tea leaves and milk. The pineapples and passion fruit grown in the backyard tasted so different and heavenly! It was bliss.

The only thing the Mallu in me missed was tapioca with chutney and fried sardines. I used to hate the rains in Chennai -- it clogged the drains, submerged the subways, slowed down cars and trains, and made a slush of our roads. Not so in this place.
