Walking through the Western Ghats
You can reach Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary by taking a local train from Mumbai to Vasai Road. From Vasai Road jump a state transport bus going to Khaman village. You have to alight at the Tungareshwar Phata stop. From the Phata, walk about a mile -- you will hit the Western Express Highway and must cross it -- to reach the sanctuary gate.
From this gate, it is around three kms of light trekking to reach the famous Shiv mandir around here. This temple is very old and houses the Shiva lingam. It is well maintained. You can take a break here. There are a few makeshift stalls around the temple to have snacks (I did not try any).
