Ooty calling
The Tamils call it Udhaghamandalam.
The English called it Ootacamund
But popularly it is known as Ooty or the Queen of the Nilgiris.
It took us about half an hour by car from Coimbatore, to reach Mettupalayam which is at the foot of the Nilgiris. From here on it was an uphill drive to Ooty, situated at 2,268 metres in the Nilgiris. Though the distance was just 60 km it was a three hour drive.

Within a few minutes we were about 500 metres above sea level and the valley looked real deep. In an hour we were 1,000 metres above sea level.
It was very misty. The flowers on both sides of the road were small and colourful while the huge bamboo, eucalyptus, and various other trees crowded the mountainside.
