Ever been to Chhattisgarh? Why not!
When I told folks I was going on a holiday and then said I was off to Chhattisgarh I got some strange reactions.
A few souls exclaimed, "Wow!"
Or expressed envy.
But most reactions ranged from, "What is that?" to "Where is it?"
Or I got faraway looks, brows knit trying to jog memories, followed by: "But WHAT is there to DO over there?"
Or: "How can you travel in your condition?"
Or: "Isn't it far away?"
Airfare for Rs 100 and less!
Uncertainties or qualms about what we were going to do in Chhattisgarh was the last thing on our minds as I, a 68 year old, who uses a walking stick, and my younger sister Sujaya decided to join five others, who were more than willing to accommodate two old women on a journey to Chhatisgarh.
We settled comfortably into the cosy confines of a Toyota Innova to traverse the 1,350 kms journey from Bangalore to Raipur -- an idyllic drive, that was as gratifying as the destination itself.
We breezed past Andhra, touching Kurnool, Hyderabad and Adilabad, as well as Bhandara in Maharashtra. Our return was through a patch of Orissa (Jeypore) and the scenic Araku Valley, including a drive past Vizag's lovely beachfront and finally through the foothills of Tirupati.
