When we first decided to take a holiday, our first in the last five years, the list of places to see was enormous. When my husband suggested Kabini (Nagarhole National Park or Rajiv Gandhi National Park), I was astounded. A holiday in a jungle, and that too with a 4-year-old in tow? Not really my idea of holiday.
But after some convincing and some surfing, I realised it was not such a bad idea after all.
So Kabini it was.
Airfare for Rs 100 and less!
We flew to Bangalore and after a halt at Mysore, started on the way to Kabini the next day.
The ride was long and bumpy, but breathtakingly beautiful.
We were staying at the Kapila Cottage Resorts (now Cicada Resort) which offered a great view of the river Kabini from our rooms.
The place was almost devoid of human beings (only eight rooms). There are actually more animals around us than human beings!
How to get there
Nagarhole is about 140 km from Bangalore and about 95 km from Mysore. You need to take a sturdy four-wheeler to get to the place. Our driver insisted that small cars are useless in this place.
