Designer Prriya Awasthy featured a lot of them in her collection Black Virgin, like the one worn over a polka dot corset by the model in the image.
According to the designer, the shrug can prove to be a useful asset to your wardrobe. "We all want to look trendy. But, as we live in a conservative society, a shrug is a good way to cover up when you wear a bikini-cut kurta, corset or strappy top. It's more convenient than a shawl or jacket."
The idea is, once you hit the party, you slip off the shrug and show off your slinky number. Or, if you feel underdressed, simply keep the shrug on.
