"8 minutes is ideal. 12 minutes is the maximum. More than 50 outfits and I'm bored," says stylist and fashion journalist Philip Surrah, who is down at Fashion Week to help designers 'edit' their collections. Surrah is referring to the time frame during which a designer must showcase a collection on the ramp.
And, if you're wondering what editing a fashion show means, stylist Kelvin Harries -- who was an editor for five years with fashion bible Harper's Bazaar -- explains: "Designers get so close to their collections that, after a while, it gets difficult for them to critique their own range. So, a fresh set of eyes helps. I try and understand the designer's aesthetic and help distil it down to one clear message, so the audience is able to digest it."
This process could begin as early as four weeks before a show, or during the fittings one and four days before. The two stylists had some great tips to offer budding designers.
