Team up. Ask around; you might find a few friends who plan to stay indoors with their kids as well. You and your kids will have more fun with friends.

Should friends be leaving their kids at home, why not invite the young ones to sleep over? (Yes, it's work, but think of the fun the kids will have by themselves as they leave you alone to sip your gin and tonic!)

Also remember that you can call in the favour when you really need to hit town -- maybe a romantic getaway with the spouse or a quiet wedding anniversary dinner at that la-di-dah place you were dying to try out.

Pick up disposable plates and glasses -- saves you the bother of cleaning up later.
