Govind Menon got a casting coup of sorts when he roped in Rekha to play mausi to his Khwahish heroine, Mallika Sherawat.

Now he has gone a step further and made the sensuous lady sing in Bachke Rehna Re Baba.

"The situation demanded it," Govind told me from Mauritius, where he is shooting the film. "The song requires her to whisper at certain times and have a lot of attitude at other times. Her character in the film has a lot of attitude. A singer may not have understood the requirements of the song."

Rekha and Mallika play conwomen, who are out to rob rich men.

Bachke Rehna Re Baba also stars Satish Shah, Paresh Rawal and introduces Karan Khanna (Vinod Khanna's nephew).

"It didn't take a lot to convince Rekha," says Govind. "She said she would do the riyaaz, and was up for the challenge!"

The song will be recorded when the cast and crew return to Mumbai. The shooting will be done by October, and Govind hopes for a January release.
