Neha Dhupia could as well change her name to Julie. It is the name some people seem to identify with her these days. And the name Neha owes the current spike in her career to.
Julie was not Neha's first film. Harry Baweja's Qayamat, scripted by my former rediff colleague Suparn Verma, was. But how many of us looked beyond Ajay Devgan -- who incidentally played Neha's love interest -- in that movie?
Neha's roster of projects includes Satish Kaushik's Phir Hera Pheri, Sangeet Sivan's Kyaa Kool Hai Hum and Sheesha, the last mentioned to be directed by Ashu Trikha (Deewanapan).
"Sheesha is an intense love story. I am four days away from shooting for it!" Neha told me.
"The script of Sheesha is at par with Julie," she feels. Sheesha will be shot entirely in Thailand. The male lead will be played by Sonu Sood.
Her next release, Rakht, stars more familiar names than Sonu, people who answer to names like Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Dino Morea, Bipasha Basu, Amrita Arora. Abhishek Bachchan has a cameo in Rakht, which hits theatres Friday after next, September 3.
"I am emotionally weak in Rakht, which is the complete opposite of my character in Julie," she says
