It is spring in Bengal, yet the scorching afternoon sun unleashed its unbearable heat as rediff.com decided to walk around Barrackpore, a sub-division under North 24 Parganas in West Bengal.
Our aim: to get a first-hand account of how the political parties and their supporters are gearing up for the forthcoming elections.
Barrackpore is all set to witness the duel between Tarit Baran Topdar of the Communist Party of India-Marxist and Dinesh Trivedi, general secretary of the Trinamool Congress. People in huge numbers came out of the cushy comforts of their homes to walk in tandem with their respective leaders.
