Congress forgotten where Rajiv was felled

Shanthi, who sells tender coconuts to tourists, said usually on Sundays there used to be a better crowd. "The heat could be the reason," she remarked as she cut open a tender coconut.

I tried to veer the conversation towards the elections. "I can only support the Congress because I live because of this memorial. My livelihood depends on the number of tourists who come to visit it."

So, who will win the elections according to her?

"Jayalalitha Amma and Sonia Amma," she said without batting an eyelid.

"But they are not together," I said.

"Who told you? They are together."

It was quite evident that she was unaware of the new equations. It must be difficult to follow and understand the political friendships that begin and end abruptly. "Are you telling me they are not together?" she was quite shaken by this. Now, she was unsure of whom she would vote for.

"I am not interested in politics. I want my life to be better, that's all," She stopped abruptly and turned away.
