The Son rises at Chennai's Thousand Lights

Vans from across the city started arriving, and all of them were filled with women. In colourful saris and with pictures of Stalin pinned on their blouse, they looked excited. Like disciplined soldiers, they got down from the van, and sat on the pavement indulging in gossip about the new films that were released last week.

"Tirupathi is just like Thirupachi and Sivakasi. Instead of Vijay, you have Ajith in it. I didn't like the film at all. Waste of time and money," Uma appeared quite irritated at wasting a hundred rupees on a 'stupid' film.

From the Tamil New Year releases, their conversation drifted to the current sensation, Gana Ulaganathan. All of them were in agreement about his Vaala Meenukum Valaga Meenukum Kalyanam song. "I just love the way he sings. That man has style like our superstar!" a woman commented with a shy smile.

Rani, who had come all the way from Royapettah to be a part of Stalin's campaign said, "We are here not because we were brought here. We are here because we want to be a part of our leader's campaign."
