Electronic Voting Machines have made elections simpler. A total of 82,000 EVMs in 35 districts were installed. Three lakh and fifty thousand polling staff were deployed to man the EVMs.
Polling began at 7:30 am sharp at 64,390 booths.
Tight security arrangements had been made all over the state, especially Mumbai.
A total of 2,390 paramilitary force personnel along with 4,700 civil policemen and 5,700 homeguards were deployed from the Centre. This was in addition to the 70,000 Maharashtra police personnel and 30,000 state homeguards.
