Just 60 kilometres from Amritsar district is the sleepy township of Qadian.

On May 7, its residents were up early. For cricketer-turned-reparteeaminutecommentator-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu was arriving to campaign.

Sidhu is fighting the Lok Sabha election from Amritsar on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

By afternoon, a throng of people had collected at the Qadian Chungi main road. Everyone waiting eagerly for the arrival of the swashbuckling former India opener.
