Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Mode of travel: by air
Prime Minister Vajpayee may not address the maximum number of election meetings. But BJP
leaders say he is this Lok Sabha election's star campaigner. "The National Democratic Alliance is
intact and will sweep the poll because of Vajpayeeji. He is undoubtedly our star campaigner," says BJP General Secretary and spokesperson Mukthar Abbas Naqvi.
Vajpayee will address only 40 meetings in the next four weeks across the country.
BJP leaders claim they have restricted Vajpayee to just two meetings a day for two reasons: his age and security. "This election is being fought on his singular popularity. But we do not want to strain him too much," a BJP election manager told rediff.com Also, since each of Vajpayee's meetings involves elaborate security arrangements, his rallies have been curtailed considerably.
But that does not mean Vajpayee will not travel the length and breadth of the country. In the next 30 days, the
prime minister will travel to most states. Uttar Pradesh will be where Vajpayee will address the maximum number of meetings: around 10.
