Pakistan unlikely to host internationals in near future

March 04, 2009

Pakistan is unlikely to host international cricket in the immediate future following Tuesday's terror attack on the Sri Lanka team in Lahore, said ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat.

"It's difficult to see international cricket being played in Pakistan for the foreseeable future," Lorgat told a news conference at Lord's in London.

Pakistan's chances of co-hosting the 2011 World Cup also looks to be hanging by a thread with the ICC saying it would review the issue at its next board meeting in April.

ICC president David Morgan described the attack as shocking and said World Cup security is paramount.

"The board will have to think very carefully about the extent to which Pakistan will be used for that event," he said of the 2011 World Cup.

The 2011 World Cup is due to be hosted by Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
