Australia's opening batsman Matthew Hayden on Tuesday announced his retirement from international cricket following his recent poor performance.
The 37-year-old earlier had planned to retire after this year's Ashes tour of England but said that he knew his time has come.

Captain Ricky Ponting who accompanied Hayden during the news conference praised him as one of the best opening batsmen in the world.
