'I tried not to feel low'

< Back Next >
Who were your biggest supporters during this tough period?

Without WV Raman (the former India Test opener) and Ramji (the fitness expert), I don't think I would have made a comeback.

They tried to take all the pressure off me. Raman took care of my bowling action and gave me confidence.

Fifty per cent of my recovery is due to these people; I had to only take the burden of the remaining fifty.

I also have to thank the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for his help.

He wanted me to come out of the injury and bowl again. He sent me to Australia and England so that I could recuperate faster. He played a key role in my comeback.

You said fifty per cent of the burden was yours. What gave you the mental strength?

I tried not to feel low. I never even once felt that I would not make it.

Rather, I told myself all the time that I would make it. I had no doubt about my ability at all.

I stopped playing not because I was in poor form, or I bowled badly. It was only because of the injury that I had to stop playing. Yes, it is not easy to come out of such injuries.
