The South African captain pulled a hamstring but that did not deter him from scoring a quickfire 25, an innings that included five boundaries, three of them coming in a single Glenn McGrath over.
More importantly, Smith combined with fellow opener Swapnil Asnodkar (39) to put on 65 runs for the first wicket, a partnership that laid the foundation stone of what was eventually a huge Rajasthan total.
