Remembering Woolmer

May 14, 2008

Bob Woolmer

(Born: May 14, 1948; Kanpur, India)
(Died: March 18, 2007; Kingston, Jamaica)
Bob Woolmer is perhaps Kanpur's most famous son.

The Englishman, who played 19 Tests and six One-Day Internationals for his country before going on to coach teams like South Africa, Warwickshire and Pakistan, also happened to be the only man to have witnessed both Hanif Mohammed's record-making score of 499 in 1958 [as a kid] and then Brian Lara's record-breaking 501 not out [as the coach of Warwickshire].
