Victorious Under-19 team arrives, sans euphoria

March 4, 2008

The stadium, which had a crowd of around 500 including presspersons and dignitaries, cheered on as the U-19 team went on stage along with their coach Dav Whatmore.

As they went up to the stage, the oft played number, Chak De was played yet again. The boys looked radiant and overjoyed at the kind of reception they received.

There was this feeling that they were as wanted as the senior team. What overwhelmed them more was the presence of the likes of Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Syed Kirmani, Roger Binny and Sunil Joshi who had taken time off just to cheer this victorious team.

Dravid went up on stage to a roaring applause. The local hero's presence made everyone go euphoric. However he seemed pretty embarrassed when the firecrackers took off louder than ever when he went up on stage.

He started by saying, "Boys, that is for you and not for me." He also said that seeing the Under-19 team win has always given him hope and he feels that future of Indian cricket is secure. He however added that each one must strive to make it to the senior team.

"What you do from now onwards is more important than what you did now," he also added.
