Victorious Under-19 team arrives, sans euphoria

March 4, 2008

The team touched down at the HAL airport at 4:30 p.m. IST in a specially chartered flight of the Kingfisher Airlines. Virat Kohli and his boys seemed thrilled to see a huge crowd gathered at the airport. They were garlanded and congratulated and it seemed as though they relived every minute of their victory once again in Bangalore.

From there they boarded a specially designed bus and headed towards the Chinnaswamy stadium, where a host of delegates awaited them. Sharad Pawar, the President of the BCCI and other dignitaries including former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah were also present at the airport itself.

Sporting Indian flags and chanting 'Chak De India', the victory cavalcade weaved its way through the Airport Road.

From there the team proceeded towards MG Road, the heart of the city where several onlookers stopped by to wave at the team. As the cavalcade wound its way into the Chinnaswamy stadium, they were welcomed by drum beats and many dancers in traditional attire.

A word of praise to the Bangalore traffic police who did a commendable job for a change in managing the traffic in the city as the cavalcade wound through the city. Security for the team members was also extremely tight.

Once at the Chinnaswamy stadium the team was welcomed to a huge applause. Firecrackers, laser lights, blaring music and people cheering is just how one could describe the scenario at the stadium.
