Brendon McCullum of the Kolkata Knight Riders got the Indian Premier League off to a dream start with a blazing knock of 158 not out in the opening match of the tournament against the Bangalore Royal Challengers.

The New Zealand wicketkeeper amassed his runs off only 73 deliveries, and his innings was studded with 13 sixes and 10 boundaries, as Knight Riders put up a massive 222 and eventually won by a handsome margin of 140 runs. McCullum's knock remained the highest individual innings of the inaugural IPL.
